What better way to celebrate Earth Day by introducing our new Environmental Club blog (I know, we’re a little early!) but this is an easy way for us to spread the word about our club and tips we’ve learned about maintaining a green lifestyle.

This first posting will introduce some of the activities that we participate in as a club, information about this coming Earth Day’s event and a preamble into how this blog will hopefully function and what we hope to gain by having a blog.

Introducing Environmental Club (formally known as SEAC)

This club is relatively new to Shippensburg University, especially the name, and operates as a way for students to get together and engage in socially responsible activities while also promoting a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle. Not only do we participate in clean ups around Shippensburg (for example: the annual clean up of Burd Run) but also we travel to other Universities to learn about how they are staying green and to learn more about the Environment! Students from all different majors participate in Environmental Club. Our meetings are on Mondays, 8 p.m. at the McFeelys coffee house.

One of the biggest things that the Environmental Club participates is Earth Day! Earth Day is on April 22nd and is a day of nationally recognizing the need to be social responsible and respect mother earth! This year’s theme for Earth Day is “Earth Day ROCKS”…we will be having a number of musical artists perform on campus, while also having engaging activities from all different clubs/organizations that are all environmentally friendly. We will have games, give-aways, tie-dying, eco-bands and recycled pins! This event is a lot of work for the club to put on but it is also one of the most rewarding things that we do as a club. Please come out and support us if you can!

What we hope to gain by having a blog is a way for ease of communication with students of Shippensburg who may be interested in what is going on with the club but can’t make a meeting, or just to high light some of the awesome activities we participate in while promoting being environmentally conscious. Look forward to posts every Monday after the meeting!
